FLOORING FAQS

LAMINATE FLOORING FAQS

Q. How do I clean my laminate floor?

A. To keep your new laminate floor in tip top condition, it’s important you follow the maintenance advice provided upon purchase. General day-to-day maintenance includes vacuuming, sweeping and dust-mopping. Specialist laminate flooring cleaning solutions are also available – these are best sprayed onto a mop-head before you wipe the floor clean. For more detailed or product specific cleaning advice, please email info@floors2go.co.uk.

Q. Is laminate water resistant?

A. While laminate floor surfaces are resistant to spillages, water can seep between the board joins. If left for a long period of time, the boards can swell and warp, especially with changing seasons and the variations in temperature and humidity they bring. Our advice is to mop up any spills and leaks immediately to prevent this kind of damage. However, should you use one of our clic seal products you can avoid this damage.

Q. Is laminate scratch resistant?

A. Thanks to the application of a tough melamine topcoat, laminate floors are virtually scratch resistant. This means general wear and tear from everyday use should not show up on your new floor. However, heavy-duty contact, such as moving heavy furniture, etc, can cause damage and deep scratches. But these can be repaired by a flooring specialist.

Q. Do you offer samples of laminate flooring?

A. Yes. Pop into you nearest store or email us at info@floors2go.co.uk.

Q. Is my laminate floor guaranteed?

A. All our laminate floors come with a warranty of between six and 25 years. For full details, check out your chosen floor’s product specifications, or email us at info@floors2go.co.uk.

Q. Is laminate flooring suitable for every room in my house?

A. Laminate flooring can be installed in almost every room of the home. It can even be fitted in kitchens (but remember it’s not slip-proof!). We’re happy to advise you on its suitability to your intended use. Although, we do not guarantee for wet rooms.

Q. Is it possible to lay laminate flooring outside?

A. No, it is not recommended for outdoor use.

Q. Can laminate flooring be installed over under-floor heating?

A. Yes, laminate flooring is suitable for use with under-floor heating systems. We recommend it is used in conjunction with a compatible underlay – the thinner the better, as this will not impair the performance of the heating system. Your heating supplier will be able to advise whether laminate flooring is compatible and the type of underlay it should be used with.

Q. How should I prepare my floor before laying my laminate?

A. Before you start, leave your flooring materials in your home for a minimum of 24 hours before installation to ensure the boards are acclimatised to your home. After the flooring has been fitted, try to keep the room/s at a constant temperature of around 18 to 26 deg C for 24 hours after installation to reduce the chance of warping.

Q. Is it possible to lay the floor myself?

A. Absolutely! Our floors are designed with the DIY enthusiast in mind. Floors-2-Go offers a comprehensive range of must-have accessories – from underlay and beading, to skirting and door bars – to help you fit, finish and maintain your new floor. Email info@floors2go.co.uk for more information on your essential accessories range.

Q. Do I need to leave an expansion gap when fitting laminate?

A. Yes. You’ll need to leave a 10mm expansion gap to allow for seasonal movement of the laminate flooring.

Q. Is it true that laminate flooring can help reduce allergens?

A. Yes. People with allergies often find their symptoms much reduced. This is because the closed joints between the boards stop allergens like dust and dust mites – which thrive on carpets, etc – from building up, meaning they cannot survive on clean-surface floors.

Q. Is laminate flooring environmentally friendly?

A. All Floors-2-Go flooring is sourced from manufacturers and brands that practice responsible harvesting. We appreciate how important sustaining healthy forests is – without a well-managed growth cycle, we’d be out of business! With responsible harvesting, however, tree cutting is monitored very carefully within a selective cutting and replanting strategy.

ENGINEERED WOOD FLOORING FAQS

Q. How do I clean my engineered wood floor?
